Free Central Heating Grant
Just because you don’t own your own home does not bar you from seeing if you can take advantage of Free Central Heating Grants. Under the Government’s ECO scheme, which aims to assist those on certain qualifying benefits with the opportunity to have their inefficient heating system upgraded, you could be eligible for financial assistance.
With a Free Central Heating Grant, even if you live in private rented accommodation, you could benefit from new or upgraded central heating, or even gas central heating for the first time, which could help you save hundreds of pounds annually. It is part of a scheme intended to help tenants financially, but also to reduce the carbon footprint caused by inefficient heating systems.
Central Heating Grants assist those who are desperately in need of an upgrade to the heating system in their home and who would ordinarily struggle financially to replace it and to heat their homes throughout the year. Whether you are currently without a gas boiler at all, or are operating an electric heating system, we could help you have a much more energy efficient home heating system so that you and the environment benefit.
How do I qualify for a Central Heating Grant?
Tenants in the UK, but not those who live in social housing, who claim any qualifying benefit could be entitled to a Central Heating Grant. Grants are available to tenants in privately rented accommodation and includes those previously had no gas central heating system or operate an electrical heating system.
You would make an application for a grant as the tenant – it is not the landlord who makes the application for his property. Tenants in council owned properties or housing association homes are not eligible for the scheme.
What does the Central Heating Grant cover?
The grant for tenants scheme provides for a new central heating system to be installed. If you don’t have a gas boiler we can help you get a new fully functioning central heating system including central heating boiler, radiators, associated pipework and control panels.
If you have an electrical heating system we can help you upgrade to a new electrical heating system, switch to Economy 7 storage heaters or even make the switch to a gas boiler system.
What are the qualifying benefits for a Central Heating Grant?
Qualifying benefits for tenants include some of the following:
- Child Tax Credit
- Income related Employment Support Allowance
- Income based Job Seekers Allowance
- Income Support
- Pension Guaranteed Credit (excludes Savings Credit)
- Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit
- Disability Living Allowance
- Personal Independence Payment
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Severe Disablement Allowance
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefits
- Ministry of Justice Benefits (administered by Veterans UK)
- War Pensions Mobility Supplement
- Constant Attendance Allowance
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- Child Benefit
If you receive one or more of the above-listed benefit types and your heating system in your rented property is long overdue a replacement, then it’s possible that you could be eligible to receive a Free Central Heating Grant. It’ll only take you 60 seconds to apply to find out whether you’re eligible, and then we’ll handle the rest on your behalf.
Is there any other way I might qualify as a tenant?
Even if you are not in receipt of any of the qualifying benefits mentioned above, you may still be eligible for a Central Heating Grant. Local authorities, under their ECO Flex Rules within their boundaries, provide grants for some tenants on the basis that they are on low incomes and will struggle to heat their homes properly. It is always worth applying as there might be other benefits or discounts that we can give you access to that you mightn’t even be aware of.
What are the benefits of the Central Heating Grant Scheme?
The Central Heating Grant scheme was initiated in order to provide eligible occupants across the UK with efficient and affordable heating for their homes and to help reduce the carbon footprint across these homes. A new central heating system is expected to bring huge savings on annual heating bills and could costs by as much as £340.
Replacing old heating systems with a more efficient heating is more cost effective as these function a lot closer to full efficiency. This is beneficial to the environment but also brings the savings to those households that need it the most.
